Salem Concrete Built to Handle Water, Soil & Growth

Salem has kept its small-town feel while new neighborhoods fill in the fields around it. Much of that new ground was farmland not long ago, and between irrigation water, sprinklers, and spring runoff, water is always on the move. Legend Construction and Concrete pours driveways, patios, and walkways designed to manage that water, so your concrete stays level and your yard stays dry.

Why Water Matters So Much for Concrete

Water is concrete's biggest long-term enemy. When sprinklers soak the edge of a driveway every night, or runoff has nowhere to go, the soil underneath softens and washes out. Slabs start to sink, tilt toward the house, or crack at the corners. On newer lots where soil was recently moved or filled, that settling can happen even faster.

We start every Salem project by looking at where water comes from and where it needs to go. Then we build a well-compacted base, slope each slab to shed water away from your home, and add details like concrete mow strips and drainage channels where they help. It's simple planning that keeps new concrete solid for years.

Salem Concrete FAQs

Why is my driveway sinking near the lawn?

A common cause is water. Sprinklers or runoff that keep soaking the soil along the slab edge can soften and wash out the base, and the concrete settles. Replacing the damaged section on a compacted base, adding a mow strip, and adjusting sprinklers usually solves it.

What is a mow strip, and do I need one?

A mow strip is a narrow concrete border between your lawn and a driveway, fence, or house. It keeps grass trimmed neatly, keeps sprinkler water away from slab edges, and makes mowing easier. It's a small addition that helps protect larger concrete.

My home is new. Should I wait before adding concrete?

Freshly moved soil can settle, so good compaction is key. You don't always need to wait, but we'll check how the lot was graded and compact the base thoroughly before we pour, so your new concrete starts on firm ground.

Can you fix water pooling in my backyard?

Often, yes. Depending on your yard, we may reslope a patio, add a concrete drainage channel, or direct water toward a better outlet. We'll look at the whole picture during your estimate.

Do I need a permit from Salem City?

Work that connects to the street, such as driveway approaches, and certain other projects may need approval from Salem City. We'll let you know what applies to your project during the estimate.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Legend Construction and Concrete is licensed and insured, and our workmanship is backed by a warranty. We'll go over the warranty details during your estimate.
